If you think those electronic recorders they want to put in your truck aren’t so accurate, you now have a friend in government – the governor or Maine.
After the SUV carrying Gov. John Baldacci crashed recently, an electric onboard recorder in the vehicle said his seat belt was not buckled, The Associated Press reported. That contradicts directly with his driver, a state patrolman, who recalled unbuckling the injured governor’s belt, and a doctor, who said the official’s injuries were consistent with being belted during a crash.
It wasn’t the only discrepancy between the data recorders and police conclusions in the crash. The driver said the governor’s car was going 55 mph; state police pegged it at 55 to 65, while the EOBR set the speed at 71 mph. The data recorder reading, police said, could have been caused by slipping wheels during the crash.
The AP said the speed limit at the time and place of the accident was 45 mph due to slick winter conditions.
