Texas considers adding tolls to highway near Houston

Texas is considering adding tolls to a section of state Route 249 on the northwest side of the Houston area, the state’s Department of Transportation announced recently.

A public meeting to discuss the proposal is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT Thursday, July 29, at the Tomball Intermediate School’s auditorium in Tomball, TX, which lies near the halfway mark on the proposed toll route.

The tolls would cover the section of Route 249 that runs from Kohrville, near the intersection of Spring Cypress Road, to Pinehurst, about 12 miles to the northwest.

The state is upgrading Route 249 into a controlled access highway. The section of the highway that runs from Beltway 8 to Spring Cypress Road is already a freeway-style road.

KHOU-TV reported recently that the proposal is not popular among local residents and business owners.
