Trucker Steven Sutton didn’t back down from an intruder in his truck, and paid the ultimate price.
Sutton, 45, of Calhoun, GA, and his wife were resting at a truck stop in southeast Dallas at 8445 S. Lancaster Road early Monday morning. According to Dallas Police reports, Sutton’s wife said a man entered their truck shortly after 1 a.m. and demanded money.
Sutton refused and shoved the man from the truck. The suspect fired one shot, which ultimately would prove to be fatal, at Sutton. The trucker managed to drive the truck to a nearby restaurant before he died.
Senior Cpl. Chris Gilliam, a police spokesman, told Land Line Magazine the gunman was accompanied by three other men. The only description provided by the wife to police listed the suspects as four African-American males in their late teens or early 20s.
The investigation is ongoing while police work with Sutton’s wife in attempts to identify the suspects. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
