OOIDA member makes TV debut on 'Simply Quilts'

Trucker Sue Lynch of Prairie Du Chien, WI, is scheduled to be featured in a program on the cable channel HGTV at 7:30 a.m. CDT on July 26.

The program, “Simply Quilts” is a half-hour show designed for quilters of any age or skill level. The episode “A Quilt Makers Journey” will feature footage of Lynch taped at Kalona, IA, in an Amish quilt museum.

Lynch said that the program’s host, Alex Anderson, and a crew spent about four hours interviewing and filming her. She expects the final cut will include only four to seven minutes of her interview, but she is pretty excited about her television debut.

Lynch has been trucking since 1997, the same year she joined OOIDA. She is currently an alternate on the OOIDA Board of Directors. She and her husband, Bill, are team drivers, and often times when it isn’t her turn behind the wheel she pulls out the sewing basket and works on her quilts.

Having been sewing since age 9, Lynch has been quilting for 20-plus years.

In October 2003, Lynch met Alex Anderson, the host of “Simply Quilting,” at a quilt show in Cresco, IA. Anderson was so impressed with Lynch and her handiwork that she told her producer about the truck-driving stitcher. Soon Lynch got a call from producer Weller Grossman, who wanted to spotlight her talents on the program.

Publicity about the segment featuring Lynch has already hit in her hometown, where a local newspaper story reported she has used almost as many miles of thread as she has driven her truck.
