A truck driver from the Philippines was freed by his captors in Iraq Tuesday, July 20, after his home country’s government removed the last of its troops from Iraq, media outlets reported.
Angelo dela Cruz was reportedly left at the gates to the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Baghdad by his kidnappers, who had demanded the Filipino withdrawal. The troops were already scheduled to leave in a month.
Dela Cruz was employed by a Saudi company that was working with U.S. armed forces. Several drivers employed by the American firm Kellogg, Brown & Root, a subsidiary of Halliburton, have also been taken hostage in Iraq.
