Coming soon to a rest area near you: More ladies toilets

Lady truckers tired of the long wait for an open toilet – rejoice! Georgia is coming to your rescue.

A bill now before the state’s General Assembly would require that buildings have twice as many toilets as they have for men.

HB1620, introduced in February by Rep. Tommy Smith, D-Nicholls, would apply only to government buildings constructed after July 1 of this year. But Smith told The Associated Press he wants the bill to send a message: “It's not good for the females that they can't go to the bathroom. And it's not good for the men because we have to wait on 'em to get out."

Three women in the House have co-sponsored the measure: Rep. Michele Henson of Stone Mountain, Rep. Judy Manning of Marietta and Rep. Nan Grogan Orrock of Atlanta.

"This is serious, a serious problem," Smith told The AP. "If you talk to any woman, she'll tell you it's a serious problem."
