Bill would let more people ride with young drivers

A bill in Illinois would remove a restriction on who can ride in a car with drivers who are under 18.

Drivers under the age of 18 now receive a graduated driver’s license in the state. Under current law in the state, during the first six months they have the license, they can have only one passenger in the car, unless the other passengers are a sister, brother or the driver’s child.

SB2341, introduced by state Sen. J. Bradley Burzynski, R-Sycamore, would remove those restrictions.

The bill has been assigned to a transportation subcommittee in the House.
