Marrero, LA, will get its truck stop after all.
A plan to build a truck stop with video poker machines in the town drew local opposition – and a thumbs down from local planners – last year, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported in March.
However, the newspaper reported recently that the town’s leaders have now approved the project, despite the objections. The report said new jobs and potential revenue from the site were among the reasons for approval.
Local residents, churches and the Jefferson Parish Planning Advisory Board had all opposed the project, which the newspaper said would be built near a residential neighborhood.
The project, which will replace a gas station and convenience store, will include parking for roughly 100 trucks and operate 24 hours a day.
Marrero lies across the Mississippi River from New Orleans.
