A trucking Valentine poem

Wes Thompson, of Plattsmouth, NE, who drives for Fremont Contract Carriers, wrote this poem for the birthday of his wife, Betty.

The Lights of Home

--by Wes Thompson

As I travel across the country in the night
In the windows of houses I see light.

It’s a glow that likely welcomes someone’s return
Speaking of another’s love, anxiety and concern.

I know the warm, tender feelings that come to me,
When I turn the corner and lights in our house I see.

But the best feeling of all, that surely draws me home
Is knowing there’s a light in your heart that shines for me alone.

So when I see lights in the windows as I roam
I think of the loving beacon awaiting me at home.

And thank God for the second of his gifts in my life
I’m so very, very blessed that you are my wife.
