Police say a New Kensington, PA, man tried to steal a tractor-trailer full of carpet but did not get far before he crashed the vehicle, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
The tractor-trailer was parked outside a carpet store. When workers went outside to unload the truck, they discovered it was gone, police said.
An ambulance driver spotted the truck, traveling slowly with some of its wheels apparently locked and smoking. Police said Wilmer Raymond Brooks, 40, wound up driving down Locust Street, where a police officer also spotted the truck. The officer said the tractor-trailer was swerving and had sideswiped several parked vehicles.
Brooks tried to turn right at the bottom of Locust Street but struck a utility pole and stopped. He was arrested without incident.
