Georgia highway plan to be unveiled at public meetings

The Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled three public meetings in March to get feedback on a statewide interstate system plan.

The 18-month study is intended to evaluate the state’s highways and identify needed improvements. It has primarily focused on the interstate system outside the 13-county Atlanta metro area.

The study includes a comprehensive, prioritized list of recommended projects to improve safety; maintain the system; ensure access and mobility; protect the environment; and address increasing traffic volumes to the year 2035. Potential funding sources and strategies for implementing the recommended improvements will also be presented at the meetings.

Public meeting locations:

  • Flowery Branch/Gainesville – 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 15, at The Depot, 5302 Railroad Ave.
  • Macon – 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at GDOT’s area office, 4499 Riverside Dr.
  • Valdosta – 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at Valdosta Technical Institute, Azalea Room of the Administration Building, 4089 Valtech Rd.

Anyone requesting additional information about the public meetings should contact Tom McQueen, GDOT Office of Planning, at (404) 657-6697 or e-mail thomas.mcqueen@dot.state.ga.us.
