In addition to the elegant, the spectacular certainly passed through Elkhart Lake, WI, during the recent Road America Super Truck Concours d’Elegance, an OOIDA sponsored NAST truck show.

While the American LeMans Series and Speed World Challenge cars competed on Road America’s four-mile race circuit, show truck competitors vied for awards and recognition as well as those ever-valuable Truck-Lite series points.

Best of Show Bobtail went to Bob and Shelly Brinker, Grayling, MI, their second in as many years at Road America. Pat Eilen, Hampton, MN, a newcomer to the Concours, won Best of Show Combination. The Brinkers won best engine, best mural and their class with their 2000 Freightliner Classic XL, “Dragon On.” Eilen took top honors in unlimited lights, graphics for combos and OEM sleeper with his 2003 Peterbilt dump truck.

Other trophy winners included Gary Patterson, last year’s Best of Show Combination winner. The Fredonia, PA, driver’s 1982 International took third in engine, first in lights-combination and second in graphics-combination. Danny Mizer, Elyria, OH, who came in third for the 2003 Truck-Lite Trophy in his 1997 Peterbilt 379 owned by Brandau Transport, took second in graphics-bobtail, third in OEM sleeper and first in both company truck-bobtail and lights-bobtail.

Trev Timblin, West Bend, WI, took second in lights-bobtail and graphics-bobtail. He won in class, ’02 and newer bobtail, with his 2004 Kenworth. Jay Bumpus, Hillsdale, MI, came in second in mural – bobtail and won ’79 or Older Working Antique class with his 1966 Autocar. David Nett, Greenbush, WI, won ’97 to ’99 bobtail in his 1999 Kenworth.

In this year’s Truck-Lite Trophy standings through Aug. 22, Gary Patterson leads Bob and Shelly Brinker, with Jay Bumpus in third.
