A Tennessee state lawmaker’s idea of building a $1.5 billion, 300-mile toll road that would wind through the northeastern part of the state has all but ran out of gas, the Kingsport Times-News reported.
Rep. Robert Patton, R-Johnson City, introduced legislation that would direct the Tennessee Department of Transportation to build the toll road from Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville to Nashville. HB3072, however, died in a House transportation subcommittee early last month when it was withdrawn from consideration.
Under the proposal, the westward toll road would have run parallel to the Kentucky-Tennessee border and then turn toward Nashville. It would have gone through 11 counties.
Patton told the newspaper he’s not surprised the bill got no support.
“What I was doing was planting an idea that 10 or 15 years from now, we hopefully might get a road from Tri-Cities across the top of the state to Nashville,” Patton said.
