Work zone speeders to face higher fines in Illinois

Illinois’ governor is proposing increased fines for speeding in work zones, The Chicago Tribune reported Sept. 22.

Under Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s plan, fines would go up from $200 to $500. Reckless driving penalties would go from $250 to $500. Repeat offenders would be fined $1,000.

The proposal was spurred in part by the recent deaths of two Illinois road construction workers in separate incidents, the newspaper reported.
