State sweeps highways for overweight trucks

Alabama is in the midst of a crackdown on overweight trucks, The Mobile Register reported Sept. 18.

Twenty state troopers are checking the weight of semis in the Mobile area this week, focusing primarily on Interstates 10 and 65, as well as other U.S. highways. Many of the vehicles being used in the effort are unmarked, but all troopers involved are in uniform, the Department of Public Safety told the newspaper.

The Register, quoting Mobile County District Court sources, reported that trucks faced a find of $210 if they are found to be overweight.
