Road funding bill put off till 2004 in California

A bill that would make it easier to raise money for roads in California did not make it out of the Assembly, but will likely be back in 2004.

Under ACA7, a local or regional transportation agency could impose a half-cent sales tax if it were approved by a lower standard of 55 percent of voters in an election. Three Assembly committees have voted in favor of the bill.

According to a spokesman at the Assembly, the bill did not pass on the Assembly floor, but will come up in the next portion of the current session, which begins in January 2004.
