The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recently published new rules that allow certain truckers with diabetes to drive commercial motor vehicles - if they go through certain procedures to gain an exemption.

First off, applicants must have three years of safe CMV driving experience while using insulin before an exemption will be considered.

Requests for exemptions should be sent to the Diabetes Exemption Program, 400 7^th Street SW, Washington, DC, 20590. After the request is received, the FMCSA will mail an application package with needed information and forms.
