The average U.S. retail price of diesel fuel rose to $1.502 a gallon from the previous level of $1.483, the Department of Energy reported Tuesday, marking the third straight increase.

The highest average price is in California, at $1.633 a gallon.

Other average prices: the Central Atlantic region, where the price is $1.594; the West Coast, where the price is $1.577; in the Rocky Mountain region, where the price is $1.538; in New England, where the price is $1.588; $1.508 in the Midwest; and 1.588 on the East Coast.

The lowest average prices are on the Gulf Coast, at $1.452; and in the Lower Atlantic region, at $1.440.
