Police charge two after cracking truck theft ring

Two men have been charged in connection with a truck theft ring that involved at least seven and up to 50 trucks that were stolen along with $1.5 million in cargo, The San Francisco Chronicle reported recently.

Jose Rivera, 40, and Rene Arana, 27, have been charged with auto theft and possession of stolen property in the case.

The two men, both citizens of the Central American nation of El Salvador, are thought by investigators to have headed a group that operated in the southern part of the state before relocating to the San Francisco Bay area roughly 2 years ago.

According to investigators quoted by the newspaper, the group would steal cargo trucks and then sell the contents of their loads.
