Truckers across the country are looking at how to prepare for OOIDA’s June Safety Month. But trucker Dan Coakley of Blaine, ME, has a suggestion on how ordinary citizens can get ready.
“It is imperative you immediately rush to your local supermarket and stock up on canned corn,” Coakley said in a letter to OOIDA. “If the supply runs out, you may substitute canned peas.”
Produce haulers and other truckers, Coakley says, will either run in strict compliance with the federal and state rules and regulations, take a vacation or possibly even park during the month of June. As for his part, the Maine driver says he’s made his decision.
“I am going to park it the first of June,” he said.
OOIDA’s board of directors voted to create and endorse June Safety Month, encouraging all truckers in the United States to run in strict compliance with all federal safety and other truck regulations. The effort includes logging all on-duty time, such as actual loading and unloading time, and driving strictly by the speed limit. One of OOIDA’s goals is zero tickets for the month of June.
Meanwhile, Coakley says ordinary Americans will need to prepare for the inevitable result.
“Forget about fresh fruit and veggies,” he wrote. “Do the patriotic thing, bite your lip and eat canned corn.”
