Mineta names John Hill as FMCSA’s chief safety officer

U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta May 8 announced the appointment of John H. Hill as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s chief safety officer and assistant administrator.

 Hill is responsible for providing executive leadership over administration and operations of FMCSA programs. He will help set up program policies, objectives and priorities and develop strategic plans for accomplishing the agency’s motor carrier safety programs and activities.

“John brings more than a decade of extensive and varied experience in motor carrier safety programs and policy,” FMCSA Acting Administrator Annette M. Sandberg said. “I look forward to working with John to meet our agency’s safety goals.”

 Hill will assume his new position June 1. He comes to FMCSA from the Indiana State Police, where he served in various positions since beginning his career in 1974.

Most recently, he was the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division commander, responsible for 170 police and civilian personnel. From 1994 to 2000, he was the Field Enforcement Division commander. From 1989 to 1994, he was the Commercial Enforcement Division commander. From 1988 to 1989, he served as the Logistics Division commander.
