Iowa puts the brakes on speed limit increase

A plan to increase interstate speed limits in Iowa is dead for this session. However, the bill will be forwarded to the next session of the General Assembly, a spokesman said.

HB532 would have increased the interstate speed limit to 70 mph. The bill would have left the speed limit at 65 mph on non-interstate four-lane divided highways. However, the bill was amended, adding a provision that would split speeds for vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds.

The bill never left the House Transportation Committee.
