Bill targeting younger drivers passes Georgia committee

The Senate Transportation Committee has approved a bill in Georgia that would loosen restrictions on some younger drivers who have lost their licenses due to speeding violations.

HB185 passed the House March 5 by a vote of 165-2. It was referred to the committee in early March.

The law would apply to drivers 18-21 years of age who have lost their licenses. Those drivers can apply for a limited license that allows them to drive to and from work and school.

The bill is now before the full Senate for its second reading, where amendments can be added. If it passes the full Senate, it will then go to the governor for his signature.
