National Safety Council names June as National Safety Month

If large numbers of truckers run legal and citizens set safety as a priority, June should be one of the safest months on record.

The month of June, already designated by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association as truckers Safety Month 2003, has been named National Safety Month by the National Safety Council – not just on the road, but at home, in public places and on the job.

People are taking personal responsibility for their own safety, and making plans to keep their families, communities and workplaces safe, says the NSC Web site.

With that in mind, the National Safety Council has announced that during the four weeks of June, it will provide tips, articles and information to help all drivers prepare, raise awareness and promote safety wherever they are.

According to the council, the month will lead with June 1-7 designated as Driving Safety Week.  June 8-14 is Home & Community Safety Week; June 15-21 is Preparedness Week; and June 22-30 is Workplace Safety Week. The council urges all Americans to take a position of safety leadership – learn how to promote safe practices and prevent injuries on the job.
