An Illinois police officer is accused of tearing up a traffic ticket in exchange for sex, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The newspaper reported Washington Park, IL, police officer Clennard E. "Clent" McCorkle allegedly tore up a traffic ticket in exchange for sex. The accusation was included in a federal indictment filed in East St. Louis. The complaint accuses McCorkle of violating the constitutional rights of a female motorist in August 2000 by "causing her to engage in a sexual act" in exchange for tearing up her ticket.

Apparently, this isn't the first accusation against McCorkle. The news report referred to a previous arrest of McCorkle in early 2001 by Illinois State Police for improperly voiding a ticket. Upon his arrest, McCorkle was suspended by Washington Park and charged with official misconduct in St. Clair County Circuit Court. The case was dismissed by a judge last month, and prosecutors have appealed.

John O'Gara, McCorkle's attorney, said McCorkle would plead "not guilty" at his initial court appearance, planned for April 7.

On the federal charges, McCorkle faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
