Gov. Mark Warner signed off on a measure this week doubling speeding
fines in highway work zones.
HB1733, sponsored by Delegate John A. Rollison III, R-Woodbridge,
was approved Feb. 18 in the Senate by a 40-to-0 vote. It passed
the House earlier last month by a 98-to-2 vote.
The bill increases the fine for speeding in work zones from $250
to $500 when highway workers are present or traffic control devices
are in place indicating work in progress.
