The Kansas Senate rejected a bill March 26 that would have boosted the 70-mph speed limit on four-lane divided highways to 75 mph.

HB2113 was rejected on a 20-to-20 vote. In the Senate, 21 votes are needed to pass a bill.

Sen. Robert Tyson, R-Parker, who sponsored the increase, responded to arguments that the higher limit would cost lives. "I'm sure if we'd have 40 miles per hour we'd save more lives," he told the Kansas City Star.
