New York state officials plan to conduct random truck inspections in a special stop on the Long Island Expressway, Newsday reported March 16.

The inspection operations, which will be located between Washington Avenue and Round Swamp Road in Plainview, are a joint effort of the state Department of Transportation, the State Police and the Nassau County Police, according to a column that appeared in the paper.

The newspaper column said the inspection area, which will be able to accommodate eight trucks, would include an exit off the highway. Construction will occur during 2004.
