A new system along
toll roads in Illinois could save drivers valuable time during heavy
traffic.The
new system, which uses information from the state’s I-PASS toll-collection
system, will provide drivers with travel time and traffic flow information
so they can decide if it’s quicker to take an alternate route,
The
Chicago Tribune reported March 17. It will focus on the parts
of the 274 miles of toll roads where accidents and construction work
are likely to create backups.
The
system will track how long it takes I-PASS-equipped vehicles to
go from one toll plaza to another, the newspaper reported. That
information will be fed to electronic message boards and a Web site, www.gcmtravel.com, to provide
travel time information to drivers.
