Truck with $10 million weed cargo seized in Texas

Customs and Border Protection inspectors in Laredo, TX, seized a load of marijuana March 9 valued at more than $10 million, the largest in port history, the Laredo Morning Times reported.

Inspectors seized 548 bundles containing a total of 10,530 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $10.5 million.

There was no arrest, but an investigation is under way, officials said. The seizure occurred at World Trade Bridge when inspectors targeted a 1996 Freightliner tractor hauling a shipment of synthetic wall panels for a secondary examination.

An imaging system indicated the need for further inspection. Inspectors found packages hidden between the panels, and canine "Miaka" alerted inspectors to the odor of marijuana in the packages.
