Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski’s budget includes millions of dollars for new roads, The Fairbanks News-Miner reported March 11.

Among the projects, according to the newspaper:

  • A route linking the small village of Rampart to the state’s road system.
  • Village connector roads in the Upper Yukon area.
  • A proposed Yukon River Highway possibly running from the Elliott Highway to Unalakleet or possibly Nome.
  • Money to purchase land for the Illinois Street expansion project in Fairbanks.
  • Money to purchase land to widen University Avenue, also in Fairbanks.

Murkowski proposed the budget Wednesday, March 10; it is now before the state’s legislature.
