Alaska may spend less money on such things as highway rest stops and trails and more on the roads themselves under a bill making its way through the state’s Senate.

SB71, proposed by Senate Majority Leader Ben Stevens, R-Anchorage, would force the state to spend no more than 10 percent of its federal highway money on such amenities, according to information on the Legislature’s Web site.

The bill was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee Feb. 27, and is headed to the Senate floor.
