Tennessee eyes truck lane restrictions

Two pieces of legislation introduced in the Tennessee General Assembly prohibit big rigs from driving in the left lane on state roadways.

Under SB729, sponsored by Sen. Tim Burchett, R-Knoxville, and HB954, sponsored by Rep. Jamie Hagood, R-Knoxville, truck tractors and semi-trailers would be restricted to the right-most lane of interstate or multilane divided highways, except when passing. Violators could be subject to a $50 fine.
