The California Highway Patrol took its newest mission to the roads July 1 – "cracking down on dangerous truckdrivers," according to a report from KCRA-TV, Sacramento, CA.
The CHP has launched a yearlong campaign, targeting commercial truckdrivers. Officers will be on the lookout for truckers who speed, drive under the influence or commit other traffic violations.
"Our goal is very simple: Reduce injury, reduce fatalities throughout California, specifically here in Sacramento," CHP Deputy Joe Farrow said.
The public awareness campaign is being made possible by a federal grant, which will pay for about 17,500 overtime hours for enforcement.
