Survey: Cell phones spur bad driving behavior

If you have any doubt that a driver talking on their cell phone is dangerous, Progressive Insurance has news for you.

The company recently conducted a survey about cell phone use in cars. And what Progressive found should give pause to any trucker who shares the road with four-wheelers.

Of those respondents who have talked on a cell phone while driving alone:

  • 46 percent have swerved into another lane
  • 41 percent have sped up
  • 23 percent have tailgated another car
  • 21 percent have cut someone off
  • 18 percent have nearly hit another car
  • 10 percent of people have run a red light
