New Hampshire to study state-owned truckstops

New Hampshire state Rep. Betsy Shultis (D-Portsmouth) has introduced a bill that calls for the state to study building state-owned truck service centers on interstate highways, The Portsmouth Herald reported recently.

The bill, HB58, is partly a response to heavy traffic on a local street – Ocean Road – in Portsmouth, caused in part by trucks from I-95 headed for a Travel America truckstop on the western end of the road, the newspaper reported.

A Rockingham Planning Commission study said traffic on the local street has increased during the past three years from 6,600 vehicles daily to 9,700.
