Officials in Phoenix are developing a plan for a half-cent sales tax to support transportation projects throughout Arizona, The Arizona Daily Star reported Jan. 17.
The plan would funnel the money to local governments and divert 5 percent of the total to 13 rural counties, the newspaper reported. The plan has already received poor reviews from some officials in the Tucson area, which rejected a similar tax less than one year ago.
Legislative approval would be required for an election to raise the sales tax.
