Tolls to rise on New Jersey Turnpike

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority will raise tolls starting Jan. 1, The Newark Star-Ledger reported Dec. 30. Cash tolls will rise 17 percent, but E-ZPass users will get a little break, only paying 10 percent more at rush hour and 5 percent during other times.

The higher tolls - which the paper said would raise about $41 million - are part of a two-stage toll hike that will help pay for a $917 million capital improvement program. Projects covered in the program include an interchange in Secaucus and a link between the toll road and Route 1.
