Michigan emphasis on road repairs cuts three projects

A new emphasis by Michigan to concentrate funding on repairing current roads over building new ones has put three major road projects in the Detroit area on hold, The Detroit Free Press reported Feb. 4.

The three projects are:

  • I-375 between Jefferson and Detroit's riverfront.
  • An expansion of I-94 in Detroit.
  • A plan to add a lane each way to I-75 in Oakland County.

“There probably will have to be more deferred projects because we just don't have the money to pay for a lot of these projects,” Mary Dettloff, a spokeswoman for Gov. Jennifer Granholm, told the newspaper Feb. 3.
