Trucker killed in accident after he stops to help motorist

Truck driver Jeffrey Jones, 36, a resident of Hildebran, NC, was killed Sunday, Dec. 14, after he stopped to help a car driver whose vehicle had become trapped in roadside snow, media outlets reported.

The accident occurred on Interstate 70 near Lover, PA, which is directly south of Pittsburgh.

Jones was hit when another tractor-trailer approached the scene and lost control, The Valley Independent reported. The second rig hit Jones and then the car of the person he had stopped to help. As that driver tried to bring the rig under control to avoid hitting other pedestrians and firefighters on the scene, he hit Colin Rodgers of Monessen, PA, the man Jones stopped to help.

Rodgers was treated for minor injuries, the newspaper said.
