Missouri Sen. Jim Talent wants to give states $50 billion for highways, most of which would be used for fixing current roads, The Kansas City Star reported Aug. 14.

Under the program, states would have to provide matching funds, but could use the highway money however they saw fit.

The Republican senator said the plan would provide improvements to the nation’s transportation infrastructure and create tens of thousands of jobs.
