NHTSA recalls some International trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for more than 2,400 International model No. 4700 tractors sold between 1995 and 1999, the agency announced on its Web site.

The trucks covered, which were Class 7 tractors produced between December 1994 and September 1998, include heavy-duty trucks equipped with Bostrom driver seat models 910, 910SC, or 914 and International’s parking brake code 04036.

The NHTSA said that if a driver adjusts or slides the driver’s seat to its most forward position from outside the cab while the parking brake is set, the seat could contact and release the parking brake lever.

If the parking brake were accidentally released, the vehicle could move unexpectedly, the announcement said, increasing the risk of a crash.

International told the agency that the company began to notify owners March 31. Dealers will install a stop-bracket on the seat track to limit the seat’s movement, eliminating the danger that it will release the parking brake lever.

International truck owners who want to know if their vehicle is covered, or for any other information on the recall, can call the company at 1-800-448-7825.
