A Minnesota legislative panel is reviewing a proposal to raise speed limits on the state’s two-lane highways.
The House Transportation Finance Committee is considering the bill, which would raise the speed limit on the rural highways from 55 mph to 65 mph only during the day. Speeds would remain at 55 mph at night.
Under HF1071, sponsored by Rep. Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, the Minnesota Department of Transportation would decide what highways might be too dangerous for the higher limit.
Speeding fines would remain unchanged under the bill.
