The Georgia General Assembly has passed a bill that would force the state to spend toll revenue on the highway where it was collected.
SB221 passed the Senate March 25 and the House April 22. It is now on its way to the governor.
A similar bill from the House, HB218, specifically called for tolls on Georgia Highway 400 to be spent on Route 400. That bill stalled in committee, and was combined into SB221.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, legislators introduced the bill in response to a report that state officials spent $10.4 million in toll money to buy land for a development project in Atlanta.
