A bill in Alabama to require tractor-trailers to remain in the right lane or lanes of some parts of the state's interstates is now before the Commerce, Transportation and Utilities Committee.

SB390 was introduced by Sen. Charles Steele, D-Tuscaloosa. 

The bill would not allow an operator of a tractor-trailer to drive in the left lane unless the driver was directed to do so by a law-enforcement officer, in an emergency, or when required to enter or exit the highway. The bill sets the fine for either offense at $150 for the first offense and $300 for any subsequent offense.
