Pipe bombs found after accident on I-66

Virginia's I-66 was closed for a short time Monday evening near Linden after rescue workers discovered two pipe bombs in a car that crashed into a tractor-trailer. Police detonated the bombs on the side of the road.

The bombs were discovered in a Dodge Intrepid after the car struck a truck, and fell down an embankment. The car reportedly overturned at least twice and landed upside down in the median.

The Dodge reportedly was traveling about 75 mph when it collided with the truck. In addition to the pipe bombs, rescue workers also found bomb-making materials as they treated the two teen occupants.

Both car occupants were taken to a local hospital. The driver underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries.
