Maryland man charged in fuel-purchasing scheme

A Maryland man has been charged with selling diesel fuel he allegedly purchased with a former employer's stolen credit card for about $1 per gallon, The Herald-Mail of Washington County, MD, reported recently.

Eric Allen Reid, Hagerstown, allegedly publicized the discount cost of fuel over CB radio, Sheriff's Department investigator Greg Alton told the paper.

Reid reportedly charged about $53,000 to the credit card since June. He was arrested Nov. 12 and charged in Washington County District Court with one count of theft-scheme involving more than $500, stealing another person's credit card and using/disclosing credit card numbers in connection with a diesel fuel theft scheme.

Reid worked as a dump truck driver for six to nine months at J. Rowland Trucking Inc. of Williamsport, MD. When Reid quit around May, he reportedly told owner John Rowland he lost his company credit card, which was to be used at local fuel stations.

Reid allegedly would meet a customer at a pre-arranged fuel station, use the Rowland credit card and then pump the fuel. Reid would be paid for the fuel with cash.
