Trucker dies behind the wheel; heart attack blamed

An Arkansas truckdriver died Monday after apparently suffering a heart attack while waiting in I-40 traffic.

Charles L. Morgan, 71, of Houston, AR, was stopped in traffic on the westbound I-40 off ramp near Conway about 11 a.m. in a 2001 International Eagle when the rig reportedly began to roll backward.

Gerald D. Peterson, of Siloam Springs, AR, driver of a 1997 Kenworth T600, reported he was behind Morgan when the rig rolled into his, bounced off and then rolled into it a couple of more times.

Peterson and another man entered the passenger-side door of Morgan's rig, pulled the emergency brake, and found Morgan was unconscious and not breathing, the Log Cabin Democrat reported. The pair started CPR on Morgan until medical help arrived.

Morgan was pronounced dead at Conway Regional Medical Center. Peterson's rig sustained about $1,000 in damages.
