Man gets life in trucker's killing

A Texas man was sentenced Oct. 29 to life in prison in the slaying deaths of two men in separate robberies earlier this year, including the beheading of a truckdriver.

George Wayne McBroom, of Bandera, faced capital murder charges for the slayings, which could have made him eligible for the death penalty. But on Tuesday, he entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors.

McBroom was arrested in September after he was caught driving a stolen car. He was charged with killing Mark Monfore, a Brownfield, TX, trucker.

On Sept. 18, Monfore's headless body was found in his partially burned rig at a truckstop near San Antonio. The victim's head has not been found.

McBroom also pleaded guilty to shooting James Shippee, of Vernon, VT. Shippee was shot three times in the head during a car theft Sept. 25. He was found alive by the side of the road in Vega, TX, but died hours later.
