Two years ago, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) revised requirements for marking commercial motor vehicles with FMCSA-issued USDOT identification numbers. The rule, effective July 3, 2002, requires "for-hire" motor carriers operating in interstate commerce to display their name and USDOT number on both sides of the power unit.
